Newsletter — August 2017

It’s been a while since I’ve sent an update, my apologies.
Things were busy for me once again, with shows,
workshops and travels. I’ve posted some new
paintings on my website as well. Recent-Works

I had paintings accepted into several national shows
this year, including the American Watercolor Society’s
150th Exhibition, the Transparent Watercolor Society’s
41st Exhibition, the National Watercolor Society’s 97th
Exhibition and the Northwest Watercolor Society’s 77th
Annual Exhibition! Also very excited to announce that I’ve

been asked to serve as the demo artist for this year’s
AWS Exhibition in New York.

 Last Call 11 x 15

July also brought a wonderful honor, as I was one of 4 artists
invited to the 3rd International Watercolor Masters Plein Air
Event in Qingdao, China. The other artists were Alvaro Castagnet
of Uruguay; Herman Pekel of Australia; and Eugen Kisnichan of
Moldova. We were joined by several Chinese watercolor masters
in an exhibition at a museum in Qingdao.

Qingdao Show Opening

Laoshan Fishing Village 15 x 20

In June I was asked to judge the Red River Watercolor Society’s
National Exhibition, a very difficult task. I enjoyed choosing work
that I thought would broaden people’s perception of watermedia
in general, with a variety of styles and media represented. In
addition I was the workshop instructor for their summer class,
and had a wonderful time with many talented students.

I just returned from my second Door County Plein Air Festival,
where I was extremely honored to have been awarded Best
In Show from juror Peter Trippi, editor of Fine Art Connoisseur
magazine. The award means I will be invited back next year and
am already looking forward to it. Many artists and attendees agreed
it was the strongest show yet, and it was the first time a watercolor
artist won the top prize!

The Charter 11 x 15

My wife and I are moving our studio to the new ArtSpace Building
in downtown Hastings! We will officially be relocated by September 1st. The
building is on the east end of old downtown, just two blocks
east of our previous studio space. We are hosting several local
top plein air painters on September 30 for a one-day event where
they will be creating work for our upcoming HPAAC Gala. The
paintings will be on display in the new gallery space in the ArtSpace
Building from 6:30-8 pm that evening. Come join us!
